For years, the crack of the bat and the roar of the crowd have been sounds I've had to chase as a cord-cutter and a die-hard Atlanta Braves fan living right in their broadcast territory. The frustration with MLB.TV blackouts is a familiar story for many of us, leaving us scrambling for often unreliable or inconvenient ways to watch our favorite teams. But now, a new player has entered the game, and it might just be the home run we've been waiting for: FanDuel Sports Network.
FanDuel Sports Network, for the 2025 MLB season, is directly broadcasting games for 9 teams, and thankfully, the Atlanta Braves are on that list! The other teams included are the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Tampa Bay Rays. 1 For fans of these teams, this is potentially huge news. The key benefit? A direct-to-consumer streaming option that promises to eliminate those dreaded local blackouts – a game-changer for those of us within the Braves' TV territory who have been left in the dark for far too long.
For me, the prospect of finally being able to consistently watch the Braves without resorting to less-than-ideal methods is incredibly exciting. It feels like a genuine solution tailored to fans like me who have cut the cord but refuse to give up on their team.
What makes this even more promising is the accessibility. The FanDuel Sports Network app is available on all four major streaming platforms: Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, and Google TV. This widespread availability means that no matter your streaming ecosystem of choice, you should be able to tap into this service.
Now, there's also a note on FanDuel's website that has piqued my interest, albeit with a bit of caution. They state: "New this season, ALL MLB teams are available to watch WITH A STREAMING package or with a TV provider." My initial focus is on the direct subscription offering for the 9 teams mentioned above, as this seems to be the core of their MLB streaming plan. My current understanding of the “ALL MLB teams” part is that it likely refers to the ability to authenticate through the FanDuel app if you already have a streaming or cable package that carries the channels broadcasting those games. For example, if a non-Braves game is on ESPN, and your Hulu+Live TV subscription includes ESPN, you might be able to log in to FanDuel with your Hulu credentials to watch that game. I'll be keeping an eye on this aspect during my testing, but my primary goal is to see how well it works for the Braves.
To get a firsthand look, I'll be subscribing to the 7-day free trial of FanDuel Sports Network. This free trial gives a great opportunity to test the service before committing. After the trial, the regular cost is $19.99 per month, or you can opt for an annual subscription at $99.99 per year. I'll be evaluating whether this price point is worth it for consistent, blackout-free Braves baseball. My main focus will be on evaluating the experience on my Google TV devices, ensuring smooth performance and reliable, high-quality streaming of the Braves games. Of course, the biggest test will be whether those local blackouts are truly a thing of the past. I'll also be noting any options within the app to watch other teams and whether it prompts for a separate login.
For Braves cord-cutters like myself, this feels like a significant moment. We've been searching for a reliable, legal way to watch our team without being tethered to cable or expensive vMVPDs, and FanDuel Sports Network might just be it. The fact that it's readily available on the major streaming platforms, at a price point that seems reasonable compared to other options, makes it even more appealing.
I'm eager to dive into this trial and see if FanDuel Sports Network lives up to the hype, at least when it comes to broadcasting the Braves. Stay tuned, because my next blog post will detail my experience, focusing on watching the Braves and any insights I gain into the broader “ALL MLB teams” claim. In the meantime, if you're a fan of the Braves or any of the other 8 teams mentioned, are you considering giving FanDuel Sports Network a shot? Let me know in the comments!
My Streaming Life continues to evolve as I seek out the best ways to enjoy the sports I love without breaking the bank or compromising my cord-cutting principles. This foray into FanDuel Sports Network feels like a promising step in the right direction.
