Am I cheating? (Part 1)

Several months back, I experimented with comparing ChatGPT and Google Gemini by asking the question: "Why should I consider cutting the cord?" They gave some interesting responses, and I posted the results.

I considered comparing other streaming or cord cutting related questions and posting the results, but I never did.

Recently, I did something a little different. After attending a conference where Google presented a session on Gemini, I decided to look a little closer at Google Gemini. Some of what I saw was interesting. And one thing in particular was really interesting.

Google Gemini Advanced (the version they were hyping at the conference) can fill the function of an editor. That's both interesting and a little scary. It's interesting because that is an easy way to get help with my writing. I'm not a great writer, but I have some good ideas. I mean, I've been a successful cord cutter for over a decade and have save a lot of money in the process. I'm doing something right, and I'd like to share those insights with others.

The scary part is that if we let the robots control what we write, then whoever controls the robots is actually in charge. This may sound a little paranoid, but it's really not. If everything you do has to be approved by others, then the others are running your life. If the robots write my stuff, then it's the robots who are actually doing this.

There is a middle ground. Well, not exactly a middle ground, but another option. That is, use the robots as proof readers. They can offer suggestions, but I look over what they say, and pick and choose what of it I like. if something I think is important is left out, I can always add it back. Or I can ignore what they suggest completely. And this is the approach I'm taking.

My Streaming Life is mine, not some robot's. But, I can use the robot to help organize my thoughts. It's up to me to make it mine. I'm sending some of my content to the robots (Google Gemini or ChapGPT, for example) for them to tighten up and help be clearer. But I'm not blindly accepting the results. If I like the suggestions, I'll incorporate them in whole or in part. If not, I'll ignore it. And anything removed is reviewed and reinserted if it's important. You be the judge if I'm doing it the right way.
